I-Profen Pediatric Suspension is a Liquid Formulation of Ibuprofen, a Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID). It is Used to Relieve Mild to Moderate Pain, Reduce Fever, and Treat Inflammation in Children. The Suspension is Often Flavored to Make it More Palatable for Young Patients.

Drug Indications 

I-Profen is Commonly Used for:

  • Fever Reduction Due to Infections, Vaccinations
  • Headaches, Toothaches, Sore Throat, Minor Injuries
  • Juvenile Arthritis, Muscle Pain 

Dosage

Dosage is Based on the Child’s Weight and Age. A Typical Guideline for Ibuprofen Pediatric Suspension (100 mg/5 mL) is:

6–11 Months (5-7.9 kg): 2.5 mL Every 6-8 Hours

1–3 Years (8-10.9 kg): 5 mL Every 6-8 Hours

4–6 Years (11-15.9 kg): 7.5 mL Every 6-8 Hours

7–9 Years (16-19.9 kg): 10 mL Every 6-8 Hours

10–11 Years (20-29.9 kg): 15 mL Every 6-8 Hours

Maximum Daily Dose: Should not Exceed 30 mg/kg/day

Do not Administer for More than 3 Days for Fever or 5 Days for Pain unless Directed by a Doctor

Contraindications 

I-Profen Pediatric Suspension should not be used in children with:

  • Allergy to Ibuprofen, Aspirin, or other NSAIDs
  • History of Asthma, Urticaria, or Allergic Reactions After NSAID Use
  • Severe Kidney or Liver Disease
  • Stomach Ulcers or Gastrointestinal Bleeding
  • Dehydration Due to Vomiting or Diarrhea
  • Congenital Heart Disease or Certain Blood Disorders (Consult a Doctor First)

Precautions:

  • Should be Taken with Food or Milk to Reduce Stomach Irritation
  • Avoid Use in Children with Chickenpox or Flu-like Symptoms (Risk of Reye’s Syndrome)
  • Do not Combine with other NSAIDs or High Doses of Paracetamol without Medical Advice
